Grand Theft – Shoplifting
Wednesday by: DoreenShoplifting may be considered grand theft depending on the value of items that have been stolen. This is a crime that is very hard to defend since there are generally security tapes, witnesses or other evidence that is difficult to ignore.
There is a significant difference however in how the charges are lodged. If a grand theft charge is defended properly it can be reduced to a misdemeanor instead of a felony conviction which ultimately is the difference between time being served in a county facility versus a state facility.
Since shoplifting is a very serious crime you’re defense must be of the highest caliber to negotiate not just the charges that are to be lodged but also negotiating alternatives to actual jail time. Don’t get complacent about these charges there are things you can do.
